What are the storage requirements for client files under bar association rules?

Most state bar associations require that client files—including confidential communications and work product—be stored securely and protected from loss, theft, and destruction for a minimum of 5–7 years after matter closure (varies by state). For large-volume law firm file rooms, FireKing's high-capacity lateral fire-resistant file cabinets can be configured in rows. Our team can assist with layout planning to maximize file capacity per square foot while maintaining fire-rated protection.

Do you have products that can store both paper files and digital backup media?

Yes. FireKing offers combination media-and-document safes as well as modular systems. Our UL Class 350 fire-rated file cabinets protect paper, and a ETL 30-minute rating to protect hard drives and USB drives. Tapes will require a class 125 rating.

Can I get a lock that logs who accessed the cabinet and when?

Yes. FireKing offers electronic lock upgrades on many cabinet models that include access logging, audit trail capability, and multi-user PIN management. This is increasingly requested by law firms under attorney-client privilege and confidentiality obligations, as well as by firms undergoing ISO 27001 or SOC 2 certification. Electronic locks can also be rekeyed instantly by changing PINs.

Do you have cabinets specifically for legal-sized documents? 

Absolutely. We offer both Vertical and Lateral files in legal-width configurations. Lateral files are particularly popular in law firms as they offer higher storage density for high-volume litigation files.

Can different drawers be assigned to different partners?
