After the Palisades Fire, virtually everything had been disintegrated into ash. The outside of the filing cabinet was horrific looking, but it did its job. Inside, all of our valuable papers were completely intact. Our passports were pristine. Our deeds were perfect. Our will and trusts were just fine. We just wish we had put more in it. Under its lifetime warranty, FireKing provided us with a new one.

FAQs

Why should homeowners consider fireproof storage?

To protect personal documents, valuables, and digital media.

What documents should I store in a home safe?

The most important documents to protect at home include: birth certificates, passports, Social Security cards, property deeds, vehicle titles, insurance policies, wills and trusts, financial account information, and irreplaceable photographs. FireKing's home safes and fire-resistant document boxes provide reliable protection for all of these. Many financial advisors also recommend keeping a USB drive with scanned copies of all critical documents inside your safe.

What's the difference between a fireproof document box and a home safe?

A FireKing fire-resistant document box is a compact, portable unit designed for a defined set of critical papers. A home safe typically offers greater capacity, heavier construction, a combination or electronic lock, and often includes both fire and burglary protection. For most homeowners, a document box covers essential needs; households with firearms, jewelry, or cash.

How long will my documents survive in a house fire?

FireKing home safes and document boxes carry UL fire ratings measured in time and temperature. A UL Class 350, 30-minute rating means the interior stays below 350°F for at least 30 minutes in a standardized fire test conducted at up to 1,550°F. The average home fire burns intensely for 20–30 minutes before suppression arrives, making a 30- or 60-minute rating appropriate for most residential use. Homes in rural areas farther from fire stations may want 1-hour or 2-hour rated products.

Can I store a gun or firearms in a FireKing home safe?

FireKing offers home safes with interior dimensions suitable for handgun storage and compact firearm storage. For long guns, look at our larger home safe models or dedicated gun safe products. All FireKing home safes with locking mechanisms prevent unauthorized access to firearms — a key component of responsible home firearm storage and increasingly required by state law.

I have limited space. What is the smallest fire-rated option?

FireKing offers many compact fire rated filing cabinets and safes. Some filing cabinets that are 22” deep perfect to fit perfectly in closets and tight spaces.

If I lose the combination to my home safe, am I locked out forever?

For security reasons, we do not have a "master override." However, if you register your safe upon purchase, our customer service can assist with recovery steps or provide a locksmith with the necessary technical specifications to assist you.

Can FireKing safes protect against water damage?

Many models are designed to protect water damage from sprinklers and fire-hose spray in the event of a fire.

Are FireKing products easy to use at home?

Yes. They are designed for convenience, security, and ease of use.

Where in my home should I install my safe?

FireKing recommends placing your home safe in a location that is accessible in an emergency, concealed from casual observation (a closet, home office, or bedroom is ideal), and on a surface suitable for anchoring. Most fires start in kitchens and garages, so avoiding these locations is wise. Anchoring your safe to the floor or wall is strongly recommended for any unit under 200 lbs to prevent theft by removal.
