FireKing Verified

When you see the FireKing Verified label, you can be confident that your residential-grade fire-resistant storage equipment has been rigorously tested to our in-house standard. This is our internal verification program, developed to ensure our products provide superior protection for your most important documents and valuables.

The FK-1200/1HR Standard

Our certification is based on the FK-1200/1HR Standard, a residential fire-resistance protocol designed to meet the unique needs of a home environment. The certification guarantees a product can:

  • Withstand external temperatures of up to 1200°F (649°C) for one full hour.

  • Maintain an internal temperature below 350°F (177°C) throughout the fire and subsequent cooling period, ensuring the protection of paper documents.

Our Testing Process

Our certification process is modeled after established third-party standards such as UL 72, but it's specifically adapted for the residential use case. The tests are conducted in two phases:

  • Fire Endurance Test: A product is placed in a furnace that reaches 1200°F and holds that temperature for one hour. Internal sensors monitor the temperature to ensure it never exceeds 350°F.

  • Cooling Period Test: After the furnace is turned off, the product remains inside to cool naturally. We continue to monitor the internal temperature to ensure it doesn't spike from heat soak, guaranteeing consistent protection.

When a product successfully completes these tests, it earns the FireKing Certified designation. This is an internal residential-use standard and not a UL-rated certification. It’s our promise that your belongings are protected by a product that’s been tested, is tough, and is proven to perform.
